Maintaining the pristine field at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., takes a lot of work — and head groundskeeper John Torres counts on a Toro® Workman® HDX to help get the job done. The 18,500-seat facility (home to the Philadelphia Union, a Major League Soccer team) has a variety of uses for the heavy-duty utility vehicle, which comes in handy all year long.

Versatile Applications

During a typical week, Torres and his assistant use the HDX for transportation around the stadium, as well as carrying small equipment, loads of dirt and grass clippings. They also pull a Toro Pro Force™ blower across the entire field to clear debris after nearly every practice and event. And other hydraulic attachments, such as a Toro Pro Sweep™, topdresser and core harvester, are used with the HDX on a regular basis. “It has been just great,” explains Torres. “We use it every day from the heat of the summer through the cold of the winter, and it always performs.”

Great Towing Capacity

“The towing alone has to be one of the highlights of the HDX,” Torres continues. “When we’re using our topdresser, we fill it to the max with sand — and the Pro Sweep can get pretty heavy with cores. But the Workman has no trouble handling the weight.”

Still Going Strong

PPL Park has had its Workman HDX since the stadium opened in June of 2010, and Torres says the tough utility vehicle is still as reliable as ever. In addition to the HDX, the facility also has a Workman MD, which is mainly used for stadium operations ranging from housekeeping to electrical work — just another example of the Workman Series’ versatility.
